Royal Intern. Air Tattoo  RAF Fairford,  7 July 2012

In the weekend of 7 and 8 July the Royal International Air Tattoo was held again at RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire. Just like the last few years I travelled to the RIAT with an organized bus tour provided by the Dutch Aviation Magazine 'Onze Luchtmacht'.

The organisation of the Air Tattoo did their very best to come with something new this year, and they managed to keep some of these participants secret until only two weeks prior the show. One of these was the participation of a KC-767J of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. It was the first time a Japanese military aircraft touched down on British soil.

The flying display also saw some first timers like the South Korean Display Team 'The Black Eagles' and 'Al Fursan' from the United Arab Emirates. What had to be one of the highlights of this years air display was the EIIR formation by 27 Hawks, but unfortunately they had to reduce to only nine Hawks due to the weather conditions on Saturday the 7th. On Sunday the crowd had some more luck and witnessed this unique formation.  (Click for a log)
