Royal Intern. Air Tattoo RAF Fairford12 July 2014

On July 12th I visited the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford for the twelfth time. One of the main reasons for me to visit this years RIAT was the participation of 3/4 F-35's of both the US Marine Corps and the Royal Navy. Unfortunately these were cancelled as all F-35's were grounded due to an engine fire in the U.S. ten days prior the RIAT.

The static display was a lot smaller again this year. As a result of budget cuts the U.S. only send three aircraft to participate in RIAT 2014. One of these was the new P-8 Poseidon, which was the highlight of this years static. Some other highlights were the two Hellenic Corsairs, the Japanese KC-767 and the C-130's from Algeria and Oman.

The airshow saw many Italian displays, including the AMX, EF2000 and good old Tornado. The US Navy Super Hornet gave a fantastic display, but was pretty high unfortunately. Other highlights were the Polish Fitters, the A-400M and the AAC Apache which used lots of pyrotechnics during its demo.   (Click here for a full log)
